What is the difference between a drill rig and a dope?
Dope: A thick lubricant used on pipe connections. Drill string: A column, or string, of pipe that transmits drilling fluid (via the mud pumps) and torque (from the Kelly drive or top drive) to the drill bit. Driller: The crew supervisor on a drilling rig, working under the toolpusher.
What does roughneck mean on a drilling rig?
Commonly found on older drilling rigs that do not have a Top Drive. ROP Rate of penetration – the rate at which you are drilling. Roughneck Person that works in the Oilfield but not in management. Roughneck and Rig Hand both refer to the same position on a rig.
