Water bore drilling relies heavily on water well rigs as they are the main equipment used for this purpose. These specialized rigs are tailored to reach deep into the earth’s surface, enabling access to underground water sources.
[pdf] In this video we assemble a DIY micro drill rig (tiny DC motor + drill bit + frame) and a submersible water pump, then test drilling a small “well” and pumping water through tubing. I explain the mechanism, torque limits, and 3 upgrades for better performance.
[pdf] The first offshore mobile drilling platform was the Breton Rig 20, first operated in 1949. This rig had evolved from the inland drilling barges which were used to drill in marshes and protected waters in up to 10 feet of water. The Breton Rig 20 was 160 feet by 85 feet, and could work in 20 feet water depth.
